About

The guiding idea behind Bear Flag Lodge is to keep things as simple and rustic as possible.

Admittedly, that's a tall task given that BPL is a 4,000 square foot structure, but we inherited its footprint and are committed to doing right by the land where it resides.  So, in that vein:

  • We don't have electric dishwashers.  It's been an amazing learning experience to witness how the simple activity of hand-washing dishes can create bonds and conversation.  And it's also a great way to get the kids involved with an easy chore.

  • Almost all of our cabinets and doors are reclaimed from demolished houses.  In the Bay Area, there are many great sources of salvage cabinets, doors, lumber, etc.  We've taken in some of these materials and built custom pieces.  The island in the kitchen, for example, consists of 3 separate cabinets joined together to form a cohesive whole.
